Have Fun But Play It Safe!

According to the 2008 American Gaming Association’s Annual Report, one-quarter (25%) of the U.S. adult population visited casinos in 2007, and they made more visits to casinos than in any previous year…376 million trips to be exact. The average number of trips per gambler also increased to 6.9 trips in 2007.

Now there is no doubt that in 2008 and this first half of 2009 there have been a few steps backward due to the economy. But the fact remains that casino visitation is still among the most popular sources of entertainment in America. Therefore, two factors enter in to a review of player safety concerns that casino security personnel feel will protect you most. The two factors:

Players’ lack of diligence to protect their own valuables and personal safety.
The tough economic conditions out there now bring petty thieves to where there is money to be had via factor #1.

The major casinos have some of the most sophisticated surveillance technology available today. Thus, it is pretty tough to cheat the casino in spite of the Hollywood scripted scams. But personal safety is up to you. Let’s take a look at what casino security experts typically agree are important.

Playing Slots

For today’s new generation machines that use your casino club cards to hold your money, the would-be criminal simply waits until you get up and walk off and leave your club card in the slot. Your Pin #? No problem. He simply watches you put your pin in…then waits. What to do? This is where the products of CasinoSentry can help.

Leaving The Casino With Your Big Win!

For starters, set aside money to valet park upon your arrival. It not safe to wander around a parking lot upon arrival or when leaving. If you’re staying overnight, it’s a good idea to stay in the casino hotel if they have one and it is possible for you. This way security can accompany and see you safely to your room.

Next, if you have a big win, don’t do a lot of broadcasting about it. (I know this is hard considering that the casino likes its patrons to see the floor personnel counting out the money into your palm. Makes everyone around you start frantically playing!). If the casino agrees, ask for a cashiers check. If you want cash or you can’t get a check, then when you leave, ask security personnel to accompany you (and they will) to your car or casino hotel room.

So what should you do? Stop going? What?! And miss the bright lights, good (and often free) food and camaraderie of fellow gamers? Heck no! Even if that includes congratulating the guy next to you who just hit a jackpot on the machine into which you just pumped the better part of your bankroll with no luck. You can go, enjoy yourself, but just Play it Safe.

When to Leave a Slot Machine

I think, deep down, you know the answer…you already know what I’m about to say!
O.K.! I get it! All slot machines use a RNG (Random Number Generator). So there is no way to predict what will come up. (Now’s a good time to remind the reader that the moment you press the button or pull the handle, the outcome is selected. The spinning reels are just for show and to display the selected symbols.) That preset is also random as we don’t know when it will come up. So, the right answer is that there is no good or bad time. Even if someone just hit a jackpot on the machine, that does not mean it can’t hit again on the next spin, or the next, or the next.

That being said, most of the people who play the slots have (or BELIEVE they have) a system of their own and a belief as to how the machines pay…random be cursed! Here are some of those beliefs:

Some people believe that If the machine just hit a jackpot, it won’t pay for a long while. However, a lot of us believe that even though the machine just hit a jackpot, it doesn’t mean it is not still on a “paying streak” (Translation: keep playing for another $100.00 worth!)
If you play a machine for three or four spins and get nothing…get up and move. The odds of it paying before you put in too much money are against you.
If you put in $100.00, and nothing happens, play that much again before you quit. This way you may hold on until the machine goes into a “pay cycle”. (I never have enough to hold out that long.)
Always play max coins…especially on the first and second spins. How many times have you sat down and hit something pretty good on the first few plays. It may go cold after that and you can drop to less than max plays if you must; but not at first.

Before we go to the casino, we always have a good feeling that we are going to win. We just have to stick to our plan (whichever one it is.) If we don’t win, it’s because we tried the wrong machines, got greedy and kept playing when we should have stopped, ad infinitum.
